Updates May 11

This week I did a few update on the site. I added the PA STATUS of each species from a few people that emailed me and wanted to see this information on the site.

Also, added in the books was the DVD order forms and information for the Natural History Programs on Snakes and Amphibians of PA from Tom Diez. These DVDs come highly recommended, so if you get a chance download the order form and order your copies.

Thanks to Bob Ferguson for his donation to the site. Donations are always welcome and are really helping out a lot to get business cards and supplies to mail them out to all of the people that have requested them so far. At the moment I have already sent out over  300 cards state wide. If you requested yours they should arrive by the middle of the week. Thanks for all who have volunteer to be apart of the process. I still have a bunch of cards, so if you would like to receive a few contact me with your mailing address.

We are working hard on new ideas and future projects and items, and hope to be able to release this information to you soon. There is a lot of work involved, so stay tuned for more information on that.

I have had a lot of great emails. I always like hearing from everyone so if you have a comment or suggestion, go over to the contact page and send me your thoughts.

Have a great week, and Happy Mothers day to all the mothers out there.

Disappearing Frogs

This was sent to me from Lauren Sommer with KQED Public Broadcasting, San Francisco, CA.

2008 is the year of the frog – and scientists are racing to understand their decline. Meet the researchers working to protect frogs against the Chytrid virus and watch an extended interview with Professor Tryone Hayes about his research into the effects of the pesticide Atrazine on frogs.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for stopping by the site and all the emails and help everyone has given in the past week of the sites launch. It is great to hear from all who have sent out emails and hope to hear more from the visitors. There is a lot of work still being done though out the site and a few suggestions that I will address and do according to the order that I have received them. Thanks for others that have took time to send in more photos. I will get those up soon also. You can expect to see the new photos on the site soon. I have a good bit to go though and select then edit for the site.

We are also working on new ideas and future projects. Once things are tweaked and we have all the information worked out I will be sure to update you on these new exciting projects that may be taking place in the next few months.

Thanks again for all the support and for dropping by. If you have any questions or would like to give a comment simply go to the contact page and get it touch with me.

Launch of PA HERP ID

I would like to welcome you to the launch of the PA HERP Identification project. My name is Jason Poston and I am a visual communications designer and in my spare time I am a field herpetologist. This site has been a personal project of mine for over six months. I have been working hard to make a site to share and help educate the public on the herpetile in there backyard and state. The site is around 90% done. There are a few small changes here and there that will be takeing place in the next few days and I still have a good bit of photos to add to the ID pages from some great photographers.

I would like to thank all of the photographers and researchers for all there help. With out them this site would not have been possible. They have supplied a great selection of photos to give the visitors here a good idea of identifying characteristics of all of the Pennsylvania herpetile. Each photographer can be found at the bottom of each page and on the image previewer.

Another special thanks to Tim Maret with the PA Herp Atlas Project for all of your help.

If you have any questions about the site or find something out of place feel free to contact me personally though the contact page. I also encourage any one that have any questions about a species you have found and need help identifying you can send me in photos and myself and other members of the site will be glad to help you out.

The PA Herp ID will have a few future projects in the works and you can keep up-to-date by signing up for out RSS and have the latest news go to your email or RSS reader. We will be looking for sponsors for a few upcoming projects and printable materials for the sites volunteers. If you would like more information on any of these projects feel free to contact me.

Thanks for dropping by the PA HERP ID site.
