About

Pennsylvania Herpetofaunal Identification was developed as a guide for the Reptiles and Amphibians of Pennsylvania. The guides show Coloration and Pattern differences among species though out PA along with information on ID characteristics. The site had and ID page for each species that are found through out Pennsylvania that includes the characteristic information, detailed photos and range maps.

Pennsylvania Herpetofaunal Identification is an educational tool for the public on the reptiles and amphibians found though out Pennsylvania. The project also aims to create knowledge to Pennsylvania residents not only through the internet, but also through interaction with the public, with the help of volunteers in the field to communicate with individuals on a personal level. The site is also here to assist with other herp related questions and personal help with Identification with the simple use of our contact form. We encourage you to contact us with any questions or let us know how the site has helped you.

How has PAHERPS been used:
Helping individuals with species found in their yards, houses and during outdoor activities.
Reference for field herpetologist and biologist.
A reference for college students and staff.
Guide for K-12 Science and biology classes.
Law Enforcement and Park Rangers.

To find out more information feel free to use our contact form or visit our FAQ’s page.

We would also like to encourage you to refer to the PA HERP ATLAS website for any sighting of endangered or species of concern. The PA HERP ID site does not handle these reports.
